Couples Course for Birth and Parenting
Ruth, a married mother of three adult children is passionate about making the birth of a baby and early postnatal weeks a positive experience for all women and their partners. Classes are informative, practical and participatory.
Classes take place in Belsize Park NW3 over five weekday evenings from 19:00 until 21:15 and one weekday morning for expectant birth mothers only from 10:00 until 12.30.
A course will typically contain between 6 and 8 couples. You are extremely welcome to come alone, with your birth partner or with a friend or relative.
Classes help couples prepare together for their birth and becoming parents. Topics for antenatal classes include: going into labour, natural coping techniques for pain, artificial pain relief, induction, caesarean birth, skin to skin with your baby, establishing breastfeeding and life with a new baby. There is an emphasis on hands-on practice of breathing, relaxation and active birth positions.
It also covers how to make decisions and to work out and get the birth and experiences you want. Partners are helped to become both involved and supportive parents.
Practical help and information about breastfeeding and early parenting ensures that couples think beyond birth to greeting their babies and life as parents.
As an experienced Lactation Consultant, I can support you with breastfeeding help after the birth.
Discussion will take place in small groups providing an opportunity for sharing ideas and support and there will also be ample time to meet other local couples expecting babies at around the same time. You will find it most comfortable to wear loose clothing and will be asked to remove your shoes.
I hope that you finish the course feeling calm, confident, and with a wealth of helpful, practical knowledge so that you feel fully empowered to make the best choices for you and your baby.
Up to date evidence based information handouts are available to accompany the classes.
